Upgrade from 1.6.0.14 to?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need some advice here. I currently run Prestashop 1.6.0.14 as a multishop with www.drakfisken.se and www.tradgardsdammen.se. We use Warehouse theme 3.3.1. We use advanced stock management.

If I decide to upgrade, what version should I go for? What should I consider before deciding which version?

And anything special I need to keep in mind when doing the upgrade?

Is it done easily or should I hire someone to do it for me? If hiring, what would be a fair price?

Most thankful for any input and help here!

Best regards

Hans

Hi Hans nice questions.  I think shop manager needs a 'good' reason to upgrade.  Is there new PS feature you want in your shop or are you wanting to upgrade complete front office or just add some new feature to it that you do not currently have.

To get latest features (and we recommend these new features) you will want to upgrade to latest 1.7.  You would not realize any new features doing a 1.6 upgrade.  This requires new themes to work with new PS framework as you old theme will not work in 1.7.

I highly recommend hiring a competent agency to do the upgrade and who can install/configure your new front offices.  You can review our upgrade service here.

Happy selling, el

Your existing shops are nice, they could use a tuning on better 'above the fold' presentation (less scroll).

Hi El Patron,

Thanks for your input!

I'm trying to optimize and improve everything to be honest. I think the main reason why I started to look into upgrading was when I worked with SEO and needed to improve the performance of my site. From what I understand 1.6.0.14 doesn't support newer and faster versions of PHP. And that I would get a good performance increase going from PHP 5.6 to 7.X.

I'm also about to invest in new checkout, new freight checkout and integrate to an external warehouse system. Then I want to be on the "right" version when doing this.

Best regards

There is 'major' improvement with 1.7 and  CCC of .jst/.css is enabled on performance page.  in 1.6 there is different CCC .js/.css file for each different page, index/catlist/product/cart.  In 1.7 there is 'one'.  This add's small weight to initial visit when .js/.css not stored in visitors browser (mod_expires) but all subsequent pages will use the browser cached files.  All subsequent pages load much faster than 1.6 and no other ecms has this.  Also with assest manager developers can define async resources for lazy loading resources.

For 3rd party module integration you will want to find modules that is compatible, if it's not compatible ask dev when it will be.  We are behind ourselves upgrading our own modules and are getting asked when we will have it ready.  But we are doing a lot of new work on 1.7 because we can create modules much easier and with new template inheritance affect front office.  Themes for 1.7 built off 1.7.1 and higher are working well in new  theme structure.  We are  very pleased and have started doing select client 1.7 upgrades with good success but we are very experienced so little things during upgrade do not derail our projects.

Happy prestashopping, 1.7  rocks

Late 1.6.1.x PrestaShop supports PHP up to 7.0.xx. We use PHP 7.0.222 with very good results. I would recommend to upgrade to a 1.6.1.13 or 1.6.1.15 version unless you really want to move to 1.7. If so, check if there is a theme available which suits your needs and also critical or necessary no-default modules. Not everything is available for 1.7.

Huuh.... you don't know how to update a module, ok. But you are sure you want to take the much bigger step of upgrading the entire installation to ps 1.7.? Think it over.

Not all issues are just "solved" by upgrading. If you still want to do so: under backoffice => modules you see the number of modules for which upgrades are available. The modul version of my 1-click-upgrade shows 1.6.8. If this does not help - you have a section with "more options". There you can also specify a link to the source where you want to upgrade from.

I am more than one year experience on prestashop developement, but i didn't upgrade. Check for update it shows Everything is up-to-date

What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?  Are you asking for help to upgrade your store, or did you already do it?

Your line of questioning and replies is very confusing
