Can only show and find 12 items per product

Can someone tell me why when I we have a product with more than 12 variations we can only see the first 12. If you try to click on one of the next pages with the controls at the top or bottom of the page, the pages show an error "No products found" even though the it will say showing 1-12 of 140 at the top of the page, for example. Only the first 12 will show.

 

This happens no matter what products per page is set to. If there is more than one page you will get the same error. Although if you click on the show all button it will show all items.

 

Can anyone please help
