About rename the shop root folder

Hi,

 

I want to:

- save a complete copy of my online 1.4.7 shop (/shop), DB and Files,

- make a copy of the shop in a new folder (/shop2) and in a new DB

- upgrade it and fix it

 

Then can I rename "/shop2" to "/shop" (after delete the original /shop), or must I do the upgrade on the old shop?

Exactly right. Make a duplicate of you current site in a sub-folder. Duplicate your database and make sure it has a new name. Edit your your settings file to reflect the new name. Make sure everything is working as it should and then go ahead with the upgrade.

RE-configure your upgraded store and get it looking how you want it. Once happy with it rename your old /shop to /shop3 and your new shop2 to shop1. Then if you encounter any issues you can easily revert to your original shop.

 

Edit: before renaming your /shop folder, be sure to change the store URL in BO to shop3. The same goes for your new shop2, rename the URL to /shop before renaming your folder.
