Fix duplicate URL's?

Hi,

I have a website that I am trying to run Faktiva's URL module on. When I install the module, it gives me the message "You need to fix duplicate URL entries:" and then at least 100 different URL's to fix. Does anyone know where I can go to delete these duplicates? I looked in my ps_product_lang table and saw duplicate entries but I am afraid to delete anything and mess up the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Zack

Hi Zack,

I answered your question earlier on the InMotion Hosting Support center.  As I explained there, it's not really a matter of deleting duplicate URLs.  The Faktiva add-on module is attempting to create "clean" URLs based on your Products.  In the process of doing so, it is creating duplicate URLs based on your products.  You need to look at the terms being used for your products and differentiate them so that the clean URL being generated is unique.  If you require further assistance, you may need to contact the developer of the module and ask how you can prevent duplicate URL's being produced by the module. This is the URL from product page of one of my test sites:

...presta1691/index.php?id_product=3&controller=product

If I decide that I want 3 of them in size medium, the URL becomes:

...presta1691/index.php?id_product=3&controller=product#/2-size-m/13-color-orange

I'm not sure where the add-on module is changing your URL or HOW it is changing it, but you may need to change the terms being used in the URL so that your SEO friendly URL is not creating something duplicated between different products. My suggestion would be to come up with a unique identifier for each product so that if your friendly URL is something like this:

...presta1691/index.php?product=dress&size-medium-color-orange

It won't be duplicate across the category "dress".  You may need to change the term "dresses" to "eveningdress" or something else so that general terms used in identifying your products are not causing duplicate URLs to be generated.

Hope that makes sense!  From what I understand of the module is that it's simply creating a "clean URL" and that is when the duplicates are being created.  There should be no deletion of duplicates, just taking time to make sure that the module doesn't create them in the process of creating your "clean URL."

Regards,

Arnel C.

  • 1 month later...

Having the problem that since i run this module, all my urls are the same.

When looking in backoffice, it has automatically changed the url linking to one product, while every product has a different name.

I have to delete products now and then insert again before anythings helps.

Manually adjusting the url doesnt works.

How can this be solved?

Same problem here.

Ruinied all my URL's.

Product all have different images, names, descriptions, urls and so on, but the module has just made one url of them, and therefore my red , white blue, green , and so in, is ony linking to grey.

Sounds like a bug that needs to be fixed...

Not sure why you are reporting this issue on PS forum.  Go contact the module author directly.

Maybe go less in your assumption.

I am posting this, because i can, and people learn from each other.

And so that the author can read the problems.

"GO' is something you can use at home or say at the dog. So loose a little off the attitude,  "mister".

posting an issue for a 3rd party module in the "looking for a module" forum is pretty useless.

Typically contacting the module author directly will net you results, hence "Go contact the module author directly."
