Calculating Shipping cost for different categories

Hello,

A quick query that hopefully someone can help with!

Our shop contains different categories of products. Carts may contain products from a single category or multiple categories.

We would like to have different shipping rules based on the category.

For example:

Blue Category (low value items)= Price Bands depending on the value if items that are in the cart from the blue category. For example, £20.00 shipping cost if the cart contains £0.01 - £100.00 of blue articles and so on.

Green Category (high value items)= No shipping cost if the value of items in the cart that are from the green category exceeds £700.00. A cost of £25.00 if the value is less that £700.00.

We can create price bands by using Shipping>Carriers but this affects the entire store.

The other option we have tried is to set up a cart rule which states that the ‘Minimum amount is £700 GBP, tax & shipping excluded’ for items in the Green Category = Free shipping.

The issue we have is that is you create a cart which contains £80.00 of articles from the Blue category and £1000.00 of articles from the Green Category the shipping for the entire cart= Free. It should be £20.00!

We would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions please!

For info, we have purchased the ‘Free Shipping Utility’ module but it doesn’t appear to work in the way we require.

Thanks

I do not think there is a way to do that without customization, I am not aware of any module that can handle this requirement - you can try to Google to see if you can find one.

You may try to use following feature to see if you can work around it.

- additional cost of product

- shipping fee based on weight (you can manipulate different weight of for product in different category)

If above does not work, you may also consider to user our Agile Seller Shipping module + Agile Multiple Seller module.

- the modules support multiple seller marketplace,  for your scenario, you set different seller for product in different categories(Seller Blue and Seller Green),

- you can set different shipping carrier for each seller(Carrier Blue and Carrier Green)

- the shipping fee will be calculated per seller/per carrier(Blue products can only use Carrier Blue, same to Green product only use Carrier Green ).

- customer is able to choose different carrier per product if your product can be handled by multiple carrier.

I think above should be able to implement your requirements.
