upgrading from 1.4 to present version

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

The website I'm working on is:  http://www.ukhobbystore.co.uk

This is after doing the upgrade.  I think the problem is to do with the positioning.  So I've unhooked some things (there were lists of goods with pictures/prices underneath the slider pictures - they were in the wrong place.  However, I feel like I'm making an even bigger mess of the site than when it was first upgraded, so I've stopped.

There seems to be a "search" box near the top obscuring the logo, which shouldn't be there - the search module seems to be hooked into at least 3 places, so I assume that is what the problem is.

Also, there is a black band across the logo with names of categories (also in black, so can't see the names anyway).  That just needs to be got rid of, and the band lower down with the categories listed in white, with a search box on it, should be above the slider, but below the logo.

I also can't work out what module the "about us., "Facebook", "amazon" etc logos are.  They were below the slider, and probably need to be down near the bottom of the webpage.  They were just below the slider after the upgrade, but after some playing around with positioning they seem to now be above the slider, but I don't actually know what I moved, to make them go up there.

My plan is to revert back to 1.4 and hope everything is OK (I saved everything).  I don't know how to do this yet, but I think there are other threads where I can find out that.

Once I've done that, I will set up a false site, upgrade it, and try to work out how to make it look the same as the old site.

Am I right in thinking that it is the positioning that has gone wrong, and if I can understand what needs to be hooked/unhooked to where, then I will be able to sort it out, or is it something more complicated, that will require me to go into the code?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sarah

Hi Sarah, the autoupgrade module does a terrible job with upgrading the theme, especially if you are using a theme from PS v1.4, it will NOT work with PS v1.6

If you were using a custom theme with v1.4, then you will need to

1) Stop using it and start using the new default-bootstrap theme include with PS v1.6

2) Locate a new custom theme that will support PS v1.6

If you were using the default theme in PS v1.4, and you plan to use the default-bootstrap theme in PS v1.6, then it still will be a mess.

Either way, after your upgrade is complete, the autoupgrade module will leave your theme a mess.  So just expect that to happen.  When the upgrade is complete, you are going to have to install a new theme, and the new theme will correct images, module positions and theme settings based on the new themes configuration that will be included.
