Cache Problems

Hi all, I have updated my PS version to 1.6.1.4.  I have activated smarty cache but then, in few days, I have exceeded my hosting space. I noticed that cache folder size is 700M. Is it normal? I have deactivated smarty cache and clicked 'clear cache' from backoffice but the folder still full.

I am trying delete folder manually by ftp but it's too slow... Where is the problem? What can I do?

you may also try to empty both of following folders manually via file manager

YourStoreRoot/cache/smarty/cache

YourStoreRoot/cache/smarty/compile

Hi, I deleted the files in both folders and disabled smarty cache. Then /cache/smarty/cache remains empty but /cache/smarty/compile not.

Why /cache/smarty/compile folder is having always files?.

the compile folder is used as working folder for compiling the theme file into php file.

because the theme file (.tpl) needs to be converted into php file so that it will be executed.

if it is normal the compile folder will always be filled with files even you disable cache.

Today I deleted the cache and the disk space available increases in 300MB.

I have no idea, the size of the folder may depends on your theme and also depends on the number of modules you have installed.

the files generated when someone access related pages. If no one access your store, then the folder will be empty, but that will never happens, there are always visitors - like search engines.

yes, the number of file generated will be very big, it is better to clear it up regularly, for example at monthly basis.
