Looking for a filter by attribute module that stays

Hi all,

 

After years of being with Prestashop we're still looking for a way to filter by attribute. We know about the layered navigation and it doesn't do what we need it to do.

 

We have a motorbike parts website.Every product has an attribute added to it called 'Select your bike' and all the bikes the part will fit are added to the product. Other attributes such as colour/size/etc are there, but we don't need them to filter.

 

We are looking for a site-wide filter, so that the customer can select their bike right from the start and the entire site will filter to show only products that have that bike attribute added to it. We'd have it in the header banner, on the homepage.

 

Where the layered nav and every other module we have tried lets us down is that they filter straight away, and show as we would want, but as soon as you click anywhere other than a product, like changing category from screens to air filters, the attribute filter resets and goes back to showing all attributes. We want the customer to choose their bike, and it be stored in a cookie or something so that the site only shows for that attribute/bike regardless of the customers path around the site, from product to product to different category and beyond, until a different bike is chosen.

 

We had some luck with Vehiclefits but it was riddled with bugs and the support was very poor, but at least it would store the choice, and we could show universal products by adding all the bike attributes to it.

 

We are currently running 1.5.3.1 but will happily upgrade if need be.
