Countdown timer on Category

Hi all,

 

I'm hoping to achieve 3 things on Prestashop 1.6.1 for a flash sale site:

• Have a countdown timer on flash sale categories (not products)
• Show flash sale categories on the homepage (large thumbnails and the timer underneath)
• Disable the category and products within it when the timer runs out.

 

Is there a way I can apply a countdown timer to a category? I've got the timer working for products (when special price ends) but I want to do a similar thing for categories. For example "this category sale will end in X days, X hours, X days, X mins."

 

I tried to add a database column (datetime) called "sale_end" in the ps_category_lang table and hoped I could link it to that but couldn't get it working. Is this the best approach? If so, I am happy to pay for a developer to have a look.

 

I've looked through every module I can find, including the flash sale ones but they seem to work by product, not by category.

 

The ideal situation would be that the category and products within it get disabled at the end of the timer too.

 

Has anyone else had similar experience with this?
