Buyer gets error code, but payment went through?!

I have now a couple of customers who are using PayPal to pay the order.

They are paying with the credit card.

The customer will receive an email with an error. The stranges is that the payment did went through and the order is marked as paid. ???!!!

This happened to me earlier today as well whilst testing a new site. However, just before I clicked to process the payment, I noticed that my shopping cart had an error in it. Originally, I had 3 items in the cart. I went to delete 2 of them. The total cart euro amount reduced correctly but I noticed for a brief moment, just before the page reloaded for payment, that one of the deleted items was still showing in the cart as a line item. Then I got the error message.

 

When I did the transaction again with just one product in the cart, everything went fine. I then noticed that both orders were in the back office (both just for one item) and PayPal took the payment.

 

So I assume that in my case the issue had something to do with the page refresh not being completed correctly after deleting the items from the cart.
