How to manually upgrade prestashop?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm a seasoned PrestaShop developer (and have worked with PrestaShop on and off since version 1.3.x), and I'm running into issues. In order to keep my clients' store up-to-date I'd like to update PS to the latest version.

We are using a custom template (bought elsewhere), and this template works pretty nice when all the modules have been configured and hooked to the right module hooks.

When I use the one-click-updater, these module locations and settings are being overwritten / reset, hence costing me hours of work to (manually) reset all settings, and module hooks. I'm a PHP pro, a SQL pro, and I can easily do this migration to a new update by hand if that will save me configuration work, after all, it's only the prestashop core that needs to be updated, not the modules (I have them updated to the latest version weekly).

Please advise whether there's a manual upgrade guide (or: allow us to choose whether to skip module update / placement resets). The latter would be recommended ;-)

something you can try, when you do the 1 click click upgrade, select not to update default theme.  This will leave your custom theme active.  However PS will 'disable' all 3rd party modules but you should then only have to re-enable them.

The problem that I have is that my client is using a very particular theme. When modules are turned off the hooks are removed and the design falls apart. I don't have the time to go through the module and hook order every time I do an upgrade, hence I am wondering whether I should submit a pull request where features like "update files and database only" are available for advanced users. What do you think?

just re-enable the modules....assuming the are compliant with your new version....it's not like they are  gone.  but asking here for script of manual upgrade is like asking how to build a model rocket ship....lol
