URL suffix or Special Characters in Friendly URL

I am building a design wizard module, and the open source code includes an ability to use the URL to configure the settings, for instance.

 

?dimensions=315,400&initStroke=ffffff&initFill=ffffff

 

I am looking into the possibility of using this to configure my products without building back end hooks and a lot of module interactions. I would use Friendly URL, but it removes any special characters, such as ? and &. I would also like to know if there is anything in prestashop or modules to allow me to apply suffix's, or if you know of any solutions to allow me to use URL's to configure my wizard for the products.
