Data import / Export questions?

Hi Guys,

 

We use a custom till system called Touchware ( in Ireland ). Myself and the Touchware guy spent some of last friday looking at import / export of data for Prestashop. Predominantly .CSV it seems.

 

We are doing this to try and tie in our Prestashop site with the backend till system for things like automatic stock level updates and Order processing.

 

After trying different tests the Touchware guy came up with the following questions that we would like to get answers to:

 

IMPORT:

 

1. Is there an easy AUTOMATED product import facility / add-on - a one click solution that incorporates things in 2 and 3 below?

 

2. Can existing products on the site be updated / over written ( eg prices levels, descriptions, quantity etc )  automatically through file import - an add-on for same if necessary?

 

3. Do we have to upload / import an entire csv product file each time? Will that overwrite all the existing data? Can a csv be uploaded with only the data we need changed eg quantity? An add-on for this??

 

What we are trying to do is automate the process of things like changing stock levels in Prestashop rather than going to each product and doing same manually. Taking this info from the till system into prestashop. I am using the word AUTOMATE alot as the data entry people are not that IT saaavy and need things to be real simple.

 

EXPORT:

 

1. Can we export all outstanding orders showing customer details and each product ordered to csv

 

Again to get this data out so it can be acted on on the floor.

 

 

Would appreciate any advice on add-ons / extensions / methods that might help us.

Answers in bold:

Yes. Create a CSV with only the fields you need to update and the product reference. Use the PS import. (not automatic)

No. You can import a CSV with only one product and it will update only that product.

 

Will that overwrite all the existing data?

 

Only the data in the CSV

 

Can a csv be uploaded with only the data we need changed eg quantity?

 

Yes. but not automatically

 

An add-on for this??

 

There may be a module for this - I don't know of one.

If you want just the new orders you would have to filter the orders then export the result. but not automatically

We have an external product that will update your inventory (price and quantity only) on a daily basis. This gets the data from your supplier (assuming that they have such data available) and imports to your database.

well im newbie and want to update/change product category

ive already make csv file [201;37,26,25,1 (id;category)] but when i import it nothing change

some thing wrong? please help me
