How to show variable from module in .tpl file?

Hi everyone,

 

I have created a custom module which saves custom data in a custom table in database upon a product is added to cart. Now I want to show the value of one of the custom variables (called $mycustomtext) in shopping-cart-product-line.tpl. How can I achieve this?

 

I have tried to assign smarty variable within module php file but this doesn't work at all. Am I missing here something basic important?
