It seems the author is suggesting changing the meta fields so that they have a default value of "" instead of NULL and make it so they can't be changed to NULL. I'm not sure how having blank metadata instead of no metadata improves SEO though.

Goto /shopfolder/classes/category.php and edit around line 64:

from :

protected     $fieldsSizeLang = array('name' => 64, 'link_rewrite' => 64, 'meta_title' => 128, 'meta_description' => 128, 'meta_description' => 128);

to:

protected     $fieldsSizeLang = array('name' => 64, 'link_rewrite' => 64, 'meta_title' => 128, 'meta_description' => 255, 'meta_description' => 255);

I use only:

protected     $fieldsSizeLang = array('name' => 64, 'link_rewrite' => 64, 'meta_title' => 128, 'meta_description' => 160, 'meta_description' => 160);

to work with the above settings in backoffice handling of title and description.
