What to do with "Product is nearly out of stock."

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The product xxxxxx is nearly out of stock.
The remaining stock is now less than the specified minimum of 3.
Remaining stock : -1

You are advised to open the product's admin Product Page in order to replenish your inventory.

Do we have to do anything? Is it doing anything to disable any next order??

Thank you,

David.

Hi David,

Normally, when you get a message like this (the number where this message is given to you depends on the setting in configuration screen of the Mail alerts Module (modules->Module and search for Mail alert module) It means people bought your product and the stock is getting low. To make sure you have no out-of-stock product (which people then cannot buy) you should buy new stock and add them to the inventory ( as noted in the message you can do that in the Product page (quantity tab) when you edit the product in the administration part (back office). So it's actually a reminder to buy some new stock, so that you always have stock available to sell. The amount of stock left where you want to be alerted depends on how fast you normally sell the product and the delivery time to get the new stock in. For example, if you sell on average 5 products/week, and delivery time is 2 weeks, you should set the alert amount to 5x2=10 (or a little more), to have no out of stock problem.

One thing strange here is: stock is negative (-1). So either something went really wrong, or you allow the product to be ordered, even when no stock available (sort of pre-order). Check the setting for this in you product-edit page, Quantities tab ("When out of stock" option)

So to answer your questions, in short, if you have chosen the option NO ordering possible when out of stock, this indeed gives problems for the client who wants this product, as the stock is -1 at the moment, so they now cannot order this product until you refiill your stock amount (products->edit quantity)

Hope this helps,

pascal.
