Link to database cannot be established.

This is the error I get, during visits to site and backend.

Could anyone explain how to fix this in simple english.
I've tried to solve it by searching old threads but I'm not getting it right :(

Thanks

Did you do an installation?
You have to check your settings.inc.php to ensure that all the define parameters are correct.

Site has been up and running several weeks. I did nothing to anything, it just went crazy on me with no reason what so ever.

Did you check with your hosting to see if the problem is at their end.

Sounds like the sql server may be down from your host.

Got this error when trying to access mysql from web interface:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections in /usr/home/local/domains/xxx/xxx.inc.php on line 52
Was unable to create a connection to usr MySQL
Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /usr/home/local/domains/xxx/public_html/xxx.php on line 1764

I've sent an e-mail to the host..begging for their help. Could take days. The only thing I can access is the ftp.

If it takes days to get support from your host, you need to change them.

Solved. The host had some internal problems which now have been resolved. I guess I should change host :)
