A2 Hosting Prestashop Version?

Recommended Posts

Hello, does anyone know the version of prestashop, that is installed by the default at a2 hosting plans ?

Also.... a2hosting say the following:

"PrestaShop will be installed as your homepage. If you wish to customize your installation of PrestaShop please select None. You'll be able to use Softaculous in your control panel to install PrestaShop. Please note your application may not function correctly until your domain resolves to your new account."

Is it better to use their installation and by the same token, their default installation or to install it later??

Thanks, E.

Hi E,

I've already answered these questions to you in PM, but am going to post them here for others to see.

We always install the most recent version of PrestaShop when you use Softaculous. The benefits of using Softaculous at signup are:

1. PrestaShop will be installed automatically, with the defaults set that work best with our hosting environment.

2. Softaculous will track when updates are available for your PrestaShop installation, and notify you by email about the update. This is especially helpful as keeping your PrestaShop install updated to the most recent version will help prevent spam and hacks.

If you install PrestaShop manually, you don't get either of these benefits and you will spend more time configuring it once it is installed.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy!

Since A2 Hosting is a Official Partner of Prestashop and reading your answer above "We always install the most recent version of PrestaShop..." I yesterday signed myself for a VPS account and letting A2 Quickinstaller install Prestashop.

But now I've noticed it's not Prestashop 1.5.4.1 that is installed, it seems to be Prestashop 1.5.0.17

But I'm not interested in a old version of Prestashop, I'm looking for 1.5.4.1

Yesterday I contacted your support and I've a ticket, but no replays from your side yet.

Is it really 1.5.0.17 you get when you start a Prestashop account?

Thanks

Johan

Hi Johan,

I looked into this with our techs. The VPS QuickInstall script has been updated and now has the most recent version of PrestaShop. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

You will need to either manually update PrestaShop, or delete the PrestaShop folder and the PrestaShop database, and run the QuickInstall again. The QuickInstall will give you an error about running it twice, you can OK past it and install PrestaShop again.

I have added a note to your ticket, requesting to have our techs reinstall your VPS, which will re-run the prestashop install and give you a fresh, clean, updated version.

As a side note, I'm not certain about your comfort with managing servers via the command line and manually updating scripts such as PrestaShop. If that's something you're not comfortable with, an unmanaged VPS may not be the best solution for you. Once your VPS is reinstalled and PrestaShop installed, we don't perform any further maintenance or updates on your VPS, it's unmanaged and you will be responsible for updates to the OS and PrestaShop moving forward.

If that is outside of your comfort zone, you may want to consider a managed VPS, which includes both cPanel and Softaculous. cPanel will manage many aspects of your server, and softaculous will help keep your scripts such as PrestaShop up-to-date with very little intervention from you.

You should be hearing from a tech soon about the rebuild of your VPS, let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Andy

Skalman, I have instructions for you on how you can reinstall your VPS:

1. Log into my.a2hosting.com

2. Click 'My Services'

3. Click 'Manage' next to your VPS

4. Under 'Server Control Panel' click 'Login'

5. Next to your server, click 'Manage'

At the bottom of the page, you'll see buttons for Reboot, Shutdown, Boot, and the last button is 'Reinstall' - click that button and your VPS will be deleted and re-installed, and will run the PrestaShop installer with the latest version.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Andy

Hello, I'm using A2 and hava an issue updating to the latest version of Prestashop.

Currently running 1.6.0.11, want to update to 1.6.1

The regular update butting in Softaculous is missing (and I didn't receive the regular email from Softaculous that I can update)

The version is available in softaculous for a new install.

Is there an issue and therefore Softaculous recommends not to update at this time and therefore the option is not there?

Softaculous and PrestaShop are both aware of an issue with updating PrestaShop from 1.6.0.11 to 1.6.1 using Softaculous.

When this issue is resolved, Softaculous will push out a new version of their updater.
