new .htaccess file setup error

Hello,

 

I run Prestashop 1.4.6.2 and I created .htaccess file 1 year ago.

 

Since then I did amendements to e-shop but then I made a very stupid mistake. I was trying to update .htaccess file but I lost it somehow or deleted it ... I don´t even know what happened to it, I know it was a very stupid mistake.

 

Now I´m trying to generate a completely new .htaccess

I create empty .htaccess with 666 permissions in main folder /www

but when I click "Generate file .htaccess" in BO, my whole e-shop falls down:

 

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

 

Provider confirmed they still run Apache. When I move the new .htaccess to any other folder, e-shop is back without pics. When I switch off Friendly URLs, pics are back. Even when I delete the new file, my shop runs OK but still without Friendly URL.

 

1) Could you please advise how to create a new .htaccess if I do not know where the old file is ?

2) What should be the setup of Friendly URL in Tool - Generators and also Preferences - URL before generating .htaccess ?

3) If .htaccess is hidden somewhere in /www why are my URLs not friendly anymore ?
