My hosting provider has warned me that the above two settings will open up my hosting to hacker/exploits attacks.

 

Do we really need the above two in PS 1.5.2? or is there any better workaround?

 

How safe would PS be with those two settings and how can I secure PS even more?

I think you could disable the magic_quotes, mod_rewrite depend on did you use the seo features or not. if you want to use seo feature then you have to enabled mod_rewrite.

 

actually there is one more called mod_security. I am having problem if activating this mod_security, if I am not activating this mod_security then prestashop will run smoothly but according to my hosting that it will make the website more vulnerable. still searching best practice for this solution, maybe you have any advice?
