Individual PS Components

Hi there,

 

I'm currently working on my second Prestashop website, so in one sense this is not new. However, I am developing something that means I'm not just 'skinning' a website.

 

What I am struggling to get my head around is the hooks/modules/blocks part of a Prestashop theme. What I want to be able to do is take my shiny new template and insert code where I need a component to display.

 

e.g. the shopping cart block, the product category list etc, by inserting, say {$cart_block}

 

This is so I can spend less time adjusting Prestashop's CSS defaults and more time working on the functionality.

 

I can't find an easy starter guide and although I can find references to hooks/modules/blocks I don't know what differentiates one or another.

 

Any help would be really gratefully appreciated.
