Add new custom dropdown-list to registration field

Hi all,

 

I have been trying for some time now, without any luck, to add a custom drop down list to the registration page. I want to be able to edit and see it in the back end by admin and allow customer to update it from the front end. I have followed and tried to adapt the steps used in in the thread http://www.prestasho...to-new-account/ to make this drop down list but have not been able to get very far. If anyone can point me in the right direction or could give me the steps to do this it would be greatly appreciated.
