non latin characters in friendly url

Hello there, i have a strange issue.
I want to have friendly urls in categories and in products pages like www.test.com/el/τεστ (greek characters) or www.test.com/el/τεστπροιον
I have enabled friendly urls, recreated .htaccess but when i type non latin characters in the product's page at friendly url field it is immediately deleted.
I modified the db myself and i successfully put greek characters in the field "link_rewrite" but when i access the front store the specific category i get a message like "too many redirections"

There is a known bug here:

it says that is fixed but in presta 1.4.1.0 that i'm using it is not.
Is there any idea/solution how to overcome this or should we wait for a new version?
