Database backup is worthless

I had a major server issue that resulted in me having to totally re upload the prestashop folder (after downloading a new one) to my server.

My database with all my pics, info, customers, etc is FULLY intact.

However, the new installation of prestashop REFUSES to reconnect with the old database, it says database already exists etc.

I can only start fresh, making my old database almost useless.

I have spent hours reading on this and other forums, to try to find a solution to my problem and could not.

I saw in other posts people did have the "database already exists" problem and their solution was to start a new database.

I do NOT wish to have to spend 10 hours manually rebuilding a new store from scratch with a new database.

Is there a way to reconnect with the old database?
