PS 1.7: Faceted search for features and product combination attributes combined

I have a product that is just a plain product, with a feature called 'Size' and a value of 'Small'.

I have a product that is a shirt (for example), which comes in 'Small', 'Medium', 'Large', so they are a combination on the item.

In faceted search, to be able to search on sizes, I have to have the Size feature AND the Size attribute, which makes no sense and is difficult to understand.

Are they able to be combined so there is only 1 choice for size and it will show me both products?
