How to change image size of manufacturer in brands.tpl

Hi,

How do I use a different image size for the $brand.image in brands.tpl

In design/image settings I have created a custom size called brand_small and ticked the brands column.

I thought it would have been something like $brand_small.image but that does not create a url.
