Changing prestashop 1.6.1.24 database without it falling over

Hi,

I tried to upgrade my site but it fell over from 1.6.1.24 to new 1.7 I had taken a backup of the files and database prior the database is set to a new trial site i created wjen installing is there anyway i can change the config of my presta shop 1.6.1.24 to point to my backuped database and not this new trial database i change the info in settings.inc.php file to point to the new database but its not working when i go to the url for my shop is there something im missing here. can anybody help me.

I understand that i had a similar issue previously but after sufferering a stroke im afriad my memory isnt wht it use to be and when reading through my older messages this was the thing i couldn't remember. Imsorry about that.
