PrestaShop celebrates its 10th anniversary and announces 270,000 active e-stores in the world
Paris, June 15, 2017 – Surrounded by its community and e-commerce professionals for the PrestaShop Day Paris, PrestaShop celebrates its 10th anniversary today. 10 years that have seen the platform go from an end-of-course project for a 23-year-old student to one of the world’s top 5 leaders in e-commerce-dedicated platforms. Today led by Corinne Lejbowicz, the company takes stock of its results and reveals its current projects and perspectives.
PrestaShop 2007 - 2017
Imagined by a 23-year-old student in the early days of e-commerce to enable e-sellers to easily launch and grow, the PrestaShop platform developed at a speed and in dimensions that surprised its founder and current chairman, Bruno Lévêque:
“Open source was at the heart of my project and my values right from day one, but I was thinking of bringing together a few dozen contributors: and today we have tens of thousands of them! We did plan to go international, but I was originally thinking of targeting 10 countries, but PrestaShop is now being used in over 195 countries. I also thought we would create a community of 10 to 20,000 members; today, we have over 1 million."
270,000 stores in over 195 countries
Today, PrestaShop powers over 270,000 stores all over the world and offers a product that never ceases to evolve thanks to the contributions of its communities across the globe: Corinne Lejbowicz, PrestaShop CEO, confirms: “Do you know of many pieces of software that evolve over 5 continents? International expansion is certainly one of PrestaShop’s development goals, but it is above all an intrinsic part of our company and our way of thinking. Keiko Ito, a prolific PrestaShop developer, came to visit us straight from Japan on PrestaShop Day. We are proud to be able to bring together so many passionate people! ”.
Despite already being the leader in Europe, PrestaShop seeks to reinforce its presence and develop it in other regions of the world.
Stripe and MailChimp join the PrestaShop ecosystem
Since e-commerce has become a global topic, Corinne Lejbowicz is using the PrestaShop Day today to announce two new partnerships with two key global players in online innovation and marketing:
Stripe and MailChimp.
"Our partnership with PrestaShop will change the way e-commerce businesses engage with customers across marketing channels. Connecting your PrestaShop store to MailChimp helps your business learn more about its audience and send smarter, more personalized messages that drive revenue and grow your brand,"
said Sean Cook, VP of Marketing at MailChimp.
“With the Stripe module, PrestaShop merchants will now be able to provide their customers with the best online and mobile payment experience in the market in terms of design, fluidity, and security. In a few seconds, they will be able to receive payments from all over the world and benefit from most of Stripe’s advanced features to optimize their conversions and grow their business while minimizing fraud,”
says Guillaume Princen, Stripe’s GM for France & Southern Europe.
