Alipay partners with PrestaShop giving European small and medium-sized merchants access to the booming Chinese ecommerce market
17 November - Alipay, China’s leading e-payments service and a business of Ant Financial Services Group, has today announced a partnership with Prestashop, an industry leader in open source solutions for ecommerce. This partnership across the UK, Netherlands and Germany will give Prestashop’s 250,000 e-retailers a powerful opportunity to sell into the booming Chinese ecommerce market where there are over 642 million active internet users and 565 million mobile internet users.
Today, 50% of online payments in China are processed by Alipay, opening up a huge opportunity for European small and medium size businesses (SMB) who might otherwise find it difficult to sell into the Chinese market. Testament to this, over $14.3 billion of gross merchandise volume was settled through Alipay on Alibaba's retail marketplaces on November 11, 2015, making the 2015 11.11 Global Shopping Festival the largest shopping day in history.
With the high demand from Chinese consumers for European products, particularly across the baby, maternity, food supplements, cosmetic and fashion sectors, the Chinese ecommerce market is a compelling opportunity for European retailers.
The Alipay Cross Border Online Payment module is natively integrated to the back office and is available in the Prestashop Addons Marketplace for merchants to download and rapidly integrate into their web storefronts now. Prestashop enables retailers to have a fully functional online store at the lowest cost possible, so access to such a vast market could be a game-changer for many of them.
Rita Liu, Head of Europe, Middle East & Russia at Alipay said: ‘Integrating new payment solutions is a big deal for large and multinational merchants, let alone small and medium businesses. We want to make sure that we make it simple for everyone to offer their products and services to Chinese consumers. Alipay has become a lifestyle for our customers and our goal is to enable them to easily buy what they want from outside of China as well as at home. By partnering with PrestaShop we are opening up a new market to European retailers and enabling our customers to use the payment platform they trust and rely on to buy online from smaller companies in Europe.”
“We are absolutely delighted to partner with Alipay because of the opportunity this provides to the PrestaShop community. Many of our merchants choose PrestaShop because of the cross-border capabilities that are fully integrated into our software. The collaboration with China's leading ePayment provider is an important step for any merchant who wants to enter one of the world’s fastest growing ecommerce markets,” said Corinne Lejbowicz, PrestaShop CEO.
Launched in December 2004 and operating as an important participant in Alibaba Group’s ecosystem, Alipay (www.alipay.com) provides secure, trustworthy and convenient online and mobile payment services. Alipay currently collaborates with over 200 financial institutions and provides payment solutions for nearly 10 million small and micro businesses.
