Can we PLEASE get the requirement of a customer having to create an account to make a purchase REMOVED? Retail studies have shown that this is the least useful tool for creating customer loyalty and often turns customers off so completely that they will simply abandon the shopping cart completely rather than go through the hassle of creating an account. At the very least, can we make it an “option” for either the customer to purchase without creating an account or as an option for the retailer to turn the feature off? I know this topic has come up before, but that’s because it is a very important item. I know you all are working very hard at all the many things that must also be part of the shopping cart, but if customers don’t want to make a purchase, then the point of the shopping cart becomes useless in itself. Thank you for considering this SOON – Prestashop has so much going for it, I just want to see it have it ALL.

I think you can fix this problem with wording. Change the header in “Create an account” to “Go ahead and buy” and at the bottom, in fine print, you can have something like “we’ll go ahead and automatically create an account for you”. Psychologically I do think it makes a difference, plus you do realize that they would have to fill out all of that information to checkout anyway.

Thanks for your suggestion – however, a simple change in wording would not be the same. The point is when the customer has to enter in the shipping and billing information, they shouldn’t need to do it twice. Personally, I find it offensive to have to create an account to make a one time purchase – it’s like having to give all my info to the cashier at the grocery store to purchase a loaf of bread. I know in the MIVA cart, also an OS shopping cart, has removed the same feature and it now allows people to make a purchase without setting up an account. I know it’s a matter of a “code” change – but since I don’t know code, I can’t do it myself. Again, thanks for the suggestion.

You only have to put in the information once.

The only extra information taken is email (which is ussually requsted anyway, in case there is something wrong with your order)
and password. Everything else is just a one time type in.

When you “make a new account”: You type in your email – then your address – then confirm – then checkout.

You can’t make it shorter without taking out important information.

Yes there is an obvious difference between this and 1-click buys, which is why the 1-click buy is being developed by the team right now. As far as “retail studies” go though, most of it is based on psychological trends and it only the wording that counts.
