I would like to make a request regarding the set up of the sales tax for USA based shops. In the USA, each of the 50 states have their own sales tax rate, with 3 states that have no sales tax at all. In Canada, each Providence has its own tax rate. Americans and Canadians are quite used to seeing the sales tax in the shopping cart on a separate line from the price of the product. With the current set up of the sales tax being added to the price of the product, it makes it appear that my product is priced higher than competitors, thus leading shoppers to make the purchase elsewhere. I would like to see Prestashop calculate the sales tax at the point of checkout and to calculate the sales tax based on the shipping address (state and zip code) of the customer. Unless this feature is currently available already, in which case I would appreciate someone explaining how to accomplish this. I know this feature is available in other OS shopping carts that will remain nameless at this time.
Thank you.

Merci.

Hi bw,

I’ve added a couple of examples on how to set up taxes for the US and Canada:

http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Taxes/#Examples.3A_Assigning_different_taxes_to_different_statesregionsprovinces

Americans and Canadians are quite used to seeing the sales tax in the shopping cart on a separate line from the price of the product.

I quite agree that this would be useful for many users. I’ve talked about it with dev team member Philippe who says he will be sure to include an option for this in v1.1, due out in September.

I would like to see Prestashop calculate the sales tax at the point of checkout and to calculate the sales tax based on the shipping address (state and zip code) of the customer.

We are discussing how to set it up so that shop owners can base their taxes and shipping costs on zip/postal code. This would also be done for a post-v1.0 version, although at this point I can’t say which one.

First of all, big congrats.. Loving the look of PrestaShop.

I have a site that is based on one of the “older” e-commerce packages. I have it set-up so that I can set the cost of the shipping based on the zip/post code. It’s done via matching zip/post codes with a grid map ref: and a calculation based on that. The hardest part for me was matching all NZ post codes with their grid map ref: but its accurate, customers don’t get over charged or I don’t over pay for shipping.

I have zones set-up that are based on how far away the grid map ref is from my own. Within each zone I have multiple prices for varying weights. It works really well and it is the only reason I haven’t replaced it with PrestaShop (YET!)

I didn’t code it and I can’t convert it for PrestaShop as I know very little about coding, and I’m poor so can’t afford to pay someone otherwise I would, but I’m more than happy to share what I have if you/anyone are interested.

Thanks for the kind words, MOZC (love the moniker btw). Welcome to the PrestaShop Forum!

Very intriguing idea re: grid map.

How about creating a Feature Request for it? That way it will get noticed by the dev team….

Done!,

I think that as PrestaShop gathers momentum it is going to take off in a major way. It is by far the best e-commerce software I have found.. I have spent many hours modifying my current site and am still really unhappy as to what it offers customers, and it’s not even live yet! If the shipping can be sorted so that most, if not everyone can make use of what ever mod comes along then it’s a sure fired bet.

I’m by no means a programmer and have probably learn’t more about PHP than I ever wanted to, due to my current set-up. if I had found PrestaShop before now I would have been more than happy…. To all, keep up the good work!
