  1. RESOLVED: This wasn't as weird as I thought. I found a post about that error and simply changed the password. I was assuming it had to do with the uninstall-reinstall, and while it may have, it still seems to be resolved. Now I try and reinstall my theme and get back to business. Thanks anyway!
  2. UPDATE: I just uninstalled and reinstalled, again. Everything said it was successful and attempted to access the admin page again. New error: There is an error: The employee does not exist, or the password provided is incorrect. The password and login come from the software at the completion page. This is the same error I had way back when I first messed up my install last year. Can anyone help? : ( No idea what I did. I tried Startlogic support - they were no help. Tried Mojo Marketplace help (place I got the install of Prestashop), and they were no help either. Prestashop 1.6 My fault, I know, but hoping someone can help save me from my own stupidity. Alison Hi all, This may sound a little convoluted, but I want to be sure you have all the information needed, so here goes: Had this installed and working a year ago Messed it up myself - my faultI tried to install again into another sub-directory and totally hosed my original install. Didn't completely understand the software or install process. : \ Uninstalled completely and software said it was successful Reinstalled cleanly - success message Domain is 'jewelrybyalison.com' hosted at Startlogic I tried to go to the URL for the admin panel to start configuring again, and it allowed me to TRY to log in Used the password supplied during the install by the software Error message: There is an error: 1. Authentication failed. Not sure it matters, but using Windows 7, IE11Is this possibly still looking for the old admin password from a year ago? which I am sorry to say I no longer have... Does this look like the correct URL: http://www.jewelrybyalison.com/prestashop/psadmin/index.php? If I can get the admin working, I should be able to reinstall the add-ons I bought and get this thing working again! Any help truly appreciated! Alison
  3. So, I did something stupid as it turns out... After installing PrestaShop and a theme and getting my web site up and looking OK, I had the Back Office running fine and was making progress. I was curious about trying to configure Presta Shop without a theme, so I tried to install Presta Shop a second time, pointing to a different folder of course, with no theme. The result made a serious mess. I have it MOSTLY cleaned up, but my Back Office settings are trashed. When I try to log into the Back Office now, using my regular user name and password, I get the message: There is one error: 1. The Employee does not exist, or the password provided is incorrect. Tried clicking the Lost Password link, but it doesn't DO anything. I have a feeling that I managed to blow away my settings, including my email and user ID so the software "doesn't know me anymore". Domain is: JewelryByAlison.com I have a theme applied. Any help to get my Back Office log on functional again so I can finish the one site I started will be much appreciated. I am guessing I may have to "hack" myself somehow, but I have no idea where to start. Much thanks in advance for any ideas. Alison
  4. The shop is running...but my admin URL won't launch anymore. When I try to launch it, it asks me to log on, then flashes a message that either the password is incorrect or there is no such "employee". The password is not incorrect. Just to try it, I tried the lost password link. It appeared to work, but I never get an email from the system with the password reset. Somehow the install no longer knows me. It is like it totally lost my account. I read a little about an htaccess file in some other posts...does it sound like I may have corrupted that? Or a similar file that stores profile/password information? Not sure how to fix the issue or even IF I can fix it. Without the ability to log into the admin tool the site is dead in the water. I have looked at manually - haven't found anything useful in them, but I will look again. If there's no way to fix it I guess I can just abandon this and revert to my hand-coded site. I'll have to figure out how to uninstall the software from my server...not sure if just deleting the folder structure does that? I am guessing no... Thanks you for the reply...
  5. Update: Well, I removed all the new install files and folders from the new sub-domain. The good news - my original shop site is up and working. The bad news - the admin page won't let me in and doesn't appear to know me. I tried the 'lost password' link to see if I can get in that way, still waiting for a return email. It appears that the only thing I actually broke was the admin panel. The site itself seems intact. Grateful that there was only one bullet in this particular gun since I aimed it at my own foot. Backing the whole site up now so I will be ready to try any ideas for getting the admin install working again. Boy do I feel dumb.
  6. Recently I installed prestashop on a domain on my server, leased from startlogic and applied a theme I bought. That was fine and works...or it did. Today I created a folder - subfolder off of public_ntml - for a new domain. I then copied the prestashop install up to this new sub-folder and tried the install. Not only do I get error messages, but it appears to have broken my original install. I tried launching the dashboard for my original install and was presented with a logon. Tried to logon, and it is telling me there is no such employee. I am the only employee. What I was trying to do was... I wanted to experiment with setting up a prestashop theme on my own on this other domain. I guess I assumed that as long as the installs were in separate sub-folders, they would be separate. I know, never assume. Now I am realizing this is software, and as such it is installed on the server - which means the new 'install' may have corrupted or over-written the original? Questions: 1. Is there a way to back out what I did so my original site is intact? 2. Is it possible to use prestashop for more than one domain if those domains are both parked on the same server? Can I set up two admin panels as separate points? Using latest version of prestashop...any ideas or suggestions will be hugely appreciated!
  7. OK - I tried the item suggested here: This is really cool, and the install was easy. I have the blog as a page off my main site, and even added the link to the top horizontal menu easily. The hard part will apparently be figuring out how to configure the page. ; ) Off to read the documentation. Thank you all for the input!
  8. Hmm, thank you everyone. Not sure if the first few got the idea, but abady seems to get it. I don't want to maintain a separate site - just have something like: http://www.jewelrybyalison.com/blog or http://www.jewelrybyalison.com/articles And, I want people to be able to search for the content from my site. I'll look at the cpanel piece first and see if I can figure it out. Already kind of broke the bank buying the theme and add on for customization. I need to be able to do some of this configuration myself! ; ) Thank you!
  9. I have a site configured with prestashop 1.6 housed on startlogic. URL is: http://www.jewelrybyalison.com Using a theme called: Jewelry Prestashop Theme - PRS010015 What I'd like to do... I'd like to publish articles periodically, and have them indexed on my site so people could look at them. I could use something like a blog post, but I would prefer not to maintain 2 separate sites e.g. a blog site AND my retail jewelry site. If possible, I'd like to have a section of my site behave differently so I could go in there and create articles that could be linked from a list perhaps? This other/older site I have shows an idea like what I mean: http://www.jewelrydesignsbyalison.com/articles.html A newsletter wouldn't really work I don't think, because it wouldn't save the content on the site. Ideally I'd like to use the content as reference for customers, but also to drive SEO to the site. Any ideas will be hugely appreciated. If there is a way to create a modified page - I could theoretically link it from the 'top horizontal menu' item.
  10. Hi EstherNL - I just found another thread that fixed this for me. I had to edit one of the source files - but it isn't really hard to do. The post I got this from: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/316569-remove-thumbnail-from-subcategory/?hl=%2Bsubcategory+%2Bimage To make the code change: 1. Open your FTP client, whatever that happens to be. 2. Copy the following file to your local desktop: /your_web_sitelthemes/theme_name/category_tpl NOTE: Make sure you save a copy of the category_tpl file someplace safe in case you want to return to the default someday - or in case you make a mistake editing! 3. Open the file in an editor like Notepad. 4. Scroll until you find this section: <a href="{$link->getCategoryLink($subcategory.id_category, $subcategory.link_rewrite)|escape:'htmlall':'UTF-8'}" title="{$subcategory.name|escape:'htmlall':'UTF-8'}" class="img"> {if $subcategory.id_image} <img src="{$link->getCatImageLink($subcategory.link_rewrite, $subcategory.id_image, 'medium_default')|escape:'html'}" alt="" width="{$mediumSize.width}" height="{$mediumSize.height}" /> {else} <img src="{$img_cat_dir}default-medium_default.jpg" alt="" width="{$mediumSize.width}" height="{$mediumSize.height}" /> {/if} </a> You have two options for the code: 1. Safest - Comment out the section to completely remove the thumbnails for the sub-categories. To comment out, you simply add a few characters at the beginning and end of the code section, and I like to add a note about what it was, and why I commented it out like this (add the parts that are in bold red): <!-- commented out sub-category thumbnail code 8/2/2014 <a href="{$link->getCategoryLink($subcategory.id_category, $subcategory.link_rewrite)|escape:'htmlall':'UTF-8'}" title="{$subcategory.name|escape:'htmlall':'UTF-8'}" class="img"> {if $subcategory.id_image} <img src="{$link->getCatImageLink($subcategory.link_rewrite, $subcategory.id_image, 'medium_default')|escape:'html'}" alt="" width="{$mediumSize.width}" height="{$mediumSize.height}" /> {else} <img src="{$img_cat_dir}default-medium_default.jpg" alt="" width="{$mediumSize.width}" height="{$mediumSize.height}" /> {/if} </a> End sub-category thumbnail code--> 2. Another option is to simply delete the code section shown above entirely. If you are very sure you will never want those thumbnails again, you can remove the code completely. I would still add a comment about where the code reference was just in case. The part that makes text in this type of code a comment is adding <!-- at the beginning, and --> at the end of the section you wish to have the code skip. Sorry if this is too involved or too entry level. Didn't know if you would be comfortable editing code so figured I'd add instructions. Commenting out this code solved my issue by removing the thumbnails that showed "No Image Available" on my site. Alison
  11. This was fantastic! A huge help! And the exercise helped me so much - I hadn't really looked at the files on the server - but now I have a very interesting weekend ahead! I can see ways to do a lot of things I was wondering about - I catch on eventually. Thank you SO much S-Hammani!
  12. I am not sure if this is even possible...but if it is, it would be great. Using prestashop 1.6, with Start Logic hosting. Theme is a jewelry theme. URL is: http://www.jewelrybyalison.com The way the site looks now is shown in attachment 1 named "as is.jpg". What I'd like to do is to add a custom line of text either Option 1: Below the logo, and above the menu as shown in mock-up in image 2 (fixed.jpg), OR Option 2: To the right of the logo, above the menu as shown in mock-up in image 3 (option2.jpg). The idea is to add a tag line to the header - not an image (unless that is the best way to accomplish this). I already tried: Editing my logo in Photoshop to add the line of text. I made the image significantly larger in pixels, but the template adjusted to make the whole thing smaller. Understandable - it probably tries to keep the proportions correct. The result was a logo that looked too small for the page as seen in attachment 4 (edited-image.jpg). Any ideas much appreciated!
  13. Not sure how to mark the title of this to [sOLVED]. Working on it...I did read the rules, just trying to find all the functions. ; )
  14. I would love the answer to this also! Same problem - if there is no image added to a sub-category, then you get an ugly "no image available" block on the main category screen. If you add an image that looks good on the main category screen, you get a tiny, weird looking image with a cropped off label on the main screen. Any way to keep the little image on the main category screen, but just keep the blank gray strip on the subcategory screen?
