  1. It is frustrating when you invest so much time and effort into something that you're passionate about, only to see it fall so far short of what you hoped for. I had a quick look at your site, which looks clean and well designed. The one thing that jumped out to me is that you seem to be offering very similar products to Amazon. You even use the term "marketplace" in your tagline, which I always associate with Amazon. I can't think of a more challenging market to go after! I searched for the first two items you are advertising on your front page and both were significantly cheaper at Amazon. Price isn't everything, but I don't understand your business proposition. What are you offering that differentiates you from Amazon, Play.com and all the other players that chase this crowded space? My advice would be use all of the great knowledge that you have accumulated over the past 12 months and find a different market to target. Find something you're passionate about and see if you can find a unique proposition. It takes perseverance to succeed in business, and every successful business I have ever seen has changed course at some point on the way to finding success. Good luck with it!
  2. It's not just about getting your site recognised, think more broadly: 1. Who is your target market? (This is not that clear to me having looked at your site) 2. How can you reach these people offline (advertisements, flyers, events etc) and online (other sites, blogs, social media etc) 3. Think of how you can encourage these people to visit the site (good advertisements, vouchers, giveaways etc) - incidentally, you have no "about you" page which lots of people look for with newer sites 4. Ensure the look of your site matches your visitor demographic (e.g. your logo is small and looks out of place with the products you sell) 5. Make the visit to your site a pleasurable experience by making it intuitive with good quality pics and text 6. Make the checkout process as effortless as possible and accept multiple payment solutions Working on the above is a never ending, relentless task. As others have suggested, Google Analytics is a key tool for understanding your visitors and their behaviour. It is invaluable in finessing the above. One final word. It doesn't matter how well you do the above, if you're not selling products that people want at competitive prices then you're always going to struggle. Good luck with it!
  3. Looks like I have managed to solve my own problem. For anyone with a similar problem this is the code you will need to change in order to round to the nearest 5 rappen in Swiss Francs: http://forge.prestashop.com/secure/attachment/10309/100913_mod_prestashop_arrondi_5cts.pdf The suggested code I was using in the post above came from http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/240908-chf-runden-auf-5-rappen-erfolglos-gesucht/ but it doesn't work across the whole site and causes problems with other areas like manual orders. Happy Days
  4. I have a Swiss store and have added the code below to round all percentage discounted sale prices to the nearest 5 centimes (there are no 1,2,3 or 4 centimes in Switzerland). This seems to be working fine throughout the store apart from on the product page where the price is being shown to the nearest single centime. I have looked at the product.tpl, but haven't been able to work out how to change the code to correct for this. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks! See: http://www.teddyandflu.ch/boys/20-robot-t-shirt.html as an example of the rounding discrepancy. public static function ps_round($value, $precision = 0) { static $method = null; if ($method == null) $method = (int)Configuration::get('PS_PRICE_ROUND_MODE'); if ($method == PS_ROUND_UP) return Tools::ceilf($value, $precision); elseif ($method == PS_ROUND_DOWN) return Tools::floorf($value, $precision); /*return round($value, $precision);*/ return Tools::ps_chf($value);; } public static function ps_chf($value) { $tmp=(100*round($value,2)) % 5; if ($tmp == 0) { $chf=$value; } elseif ($tmp <= 2) { $chf=($value-$tmp/100); } else { $chf=($value+(5-$tmp)/100); } return number_format((round(20*$chf))/20,2); } /* added by AMS for CHF rounding */
  5. Thanks Crowell - could you let me know what platform and OS you're on to see if I can replicate this? On a separate point, I think I have managed to solve the grey buttons that Paulito highlighted. The issue was with the gradient filter not being properly recognised by all platform/browser combinations.
  6. Kimiss, thanks for the positive feedback and the suggestions for further improvement - both very much appreciated
  7. Strange, when I check Chrome on both Windows 7 and Mavericks it looks fine. Mmmm, will take a look at the code to see if I can see any issues...
  8. Thanks Paul, particularly for the two screen shots showing the white buttons. These buttons should be blue, and they do appear blue when I've tested the site in Firefox, IE, Chrome and Safari. Could you let me know which browser you are seeing this in so that I can correct it. Many thanks!
  9. Hi, I have recently launched a new store selling baby and children's clothing in Switzerland - www.teddyandflu.ch Any feedback, comments or suggestions on the site welcomed - thanks! For anyone reading this who is thinking about using Prestashop as their e-commerice software, then I can whole heartily recommend Prestashop. I did lots of research on the many options out there including Shopify, BigCommerce and Volusion. My conclusion was that all four of these companies offer excellent solutions and that no single one is the best. It's about understanding the difference between these different platforms and choosing the right one for you. One of the main reasons I chose Prestashop was because it was open-source and allowed me to customise the source code. As a newbie to coding I have had great fun learning the basics of coding and applying them to the prestashop default template. Let me know what you think about the look of the website. I have tried to give it a clean interface that focuses visitors on the products. Thanks!
  10. Thanks Paul, I haven't tried this module, but it does cost €29. I was hoping to find a free module... I have come across this module, which is free: http://www.prestapoint.com/en/clean-url-without-id-13.html Anyone with any experience of this module, and more specifically whether it will work with my example of sub-categories with the same name? Thanks
  11. I would like to remove the ID numbers from the URL's on my store. There are a number of modules out there that do this, but many seem to fail when you have sub-categories with the same name. Example of sub-categories with the same name: level 1 level 2 level 3 baby T-shirts Blue t-shirt girls T-shirts Blue t-shirt boys T-shirts Blue t-shirt Has anyone found a module that allows you to remove the ID number and still work with the above category structure? Many thanks
  12. Vekia, thanks for the helpful reply. I added the code to the module tpl file, but it didn't seem to make any difference. It did however make me think that the custom payment template that I am using isn't showing in the list of pages in modules / exceptions. I simply added the custom template name to the list of exceptions in the modules / exceptions for the image slider module and this has worked (even though it doesn't show in the list of pages). So thank you for the pointing me in the right direction! Incidentally, thank you for your contribution to this forum. Whilst this is the first time I have needed to ask a question myself, I have used the answers you have given to others on countless occasions. The quality of this forum is one of the things that makes Prestashop so great. Thank you!
  13. Hi I have the mypresta.eu "image slider for your homepage" module installed and have it set-up under the back office modules / positions so that every page except the index page is not displayed. This has been working fine with the slider only showing on the homepage. I have just installed a PostFinance payment module and this all works fine, except on the payment page (where the customer enters their payment details). The image slider is incorrectly showing on the payment page despite having highlighted the payment page under the image slider custom modules to make it an exception, just like all the other pages, but this doesn't seem to be having any effect. Any ideas for how I can remove the image slider from the payment page would be gratefully received. Many thanks! Alex Website: www.teddyandflu.ch module.tiff slider.tiff
