  1. Thanks everyone, I'll go back to testing now. Hopefully optimizator will do the trick for the CSS and JS issues. I'll definitely experiment with that DB tweak a little later also. I REALLY want this platform to work out, it looks great, and I love the user friendly interface. I'm really fed up with crummy carts and want one I can offer my clients with confidence. Right now when I recommend carts I don't do it with confidence, "This one is less bad then that one."
  2. Hi uddhava, yes I researched speed in the forums, but I didn't come across minifying and gzipping CSS and JS. If anyone knows how to accomplish that in PS, I'll be your BFF.
  3. I'm brand new to PrestaShop. I'm doing some testing on my localhost, because I'm hoping to have a new platform I can support for my clients. One of my biggest concerns right now is the speed of PrestaShop. I insist on my sites have an A grade for YSlow, and PrestaShop gets a C out of the box. I've already moved the scripts to the bottom, which brought it up to a B grade. I'll be spriting backgrounds that I make for future sites, so that's another piece that will be getting fixed. One of my biggest concerns now is that I want to minify, combine, and gzip all my CSS and JS files. I don't see any obvious way to do that. Does anyone know how to do that or if there are tools available for that? Does anyone have any other speed tips for PS? Thanks, Chris
  4. Hi scottyboy, I'm comfortable working in code, but it's more than that. Many functions just simply do not work out of the box and you have to dig through all the code to make them work. For example, all of the e-mail templates have to be fixed in the code by hand. By default it'll say things like "Welcome to Demo Store" and "Contact us if you need help at [email protected]". These are things that are normally automatically handled by the system in every other CMS I've worked with. There's just way too many little things that you HAVE to do out of the box, and unfortunately there's no help as to what to do and where to do it. You just have to figure it out and find them all on your own. Of course, I imagine that wouldn't be a problem if I coughed up $10k for the "Professional" version. :-/ Sorry for the rant, I'm just a little fed up with what's supposedly one of the best ecommerce systems. IMHO, it is NOT one of the best ecommerce systems, which is why I'm shopping again. So far this platform looks promising. I'll have to do some testing when I can make the time. :-)
  5. Thanks for the quick reply radders. :-) I know what you mean, Magento is so aggravating. It's made by programmers for programmers, and no one else can use it. I know developers who have been working with Magento for years and hate every minute of it. The worst part is the support ... or lack of it! Sorry for the tangent. :red: If you don't mind, I've got a few specific issues I need to resolve before I can recommend this platform: 1. How easy is it to transfer products from one to the other? For one client, I have ~1,000 products that would have to move and doing so by hand is simply not a good use of time. 2. My clients often use Authorize.net for payment. I didn't notice that in the demo, is it supported? 3. I often use an API with USPS and FedEx to get shipping rates. Can PS do that, or do I have to work something else out? 4. I have one client who has 3 website running off of their Magento system. Can PS run multiple sites or do I need an installation for each website? Thanks again!
  6. Hi, I just discovered this platform and it looks pretty exciting. My current client complains of Magento's lack of usability, minor tweaks being such a tedious process, as well as several other issues. It looks like this platform has usability done better, which is a great start. I want to know who else has come over from Magento. What have been the good points? What have been the challenges? How is the code to work with in comparison? Cheers, Chris
