Installing on one server then transfering to another

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I already have a functioning e-commerce website however it doesn't have the same features as prestashop. Also I want a fresh start. I don't want to transfer any settings or products.

My question is. How can I install Prestashop, style it and upload all products etc without disturbing the live website until prestashop is ready? Is it a simple matter of installing on another server, setting up themes, products etc. Then performing a backup, installing on my current server and restore?

Create a subdomain for it, upload prestashop in a subfolder and point the subdomain to it (like site.com/prestashop). You san simply move it to the main folder or redirect the domain to the folder itself once you're ready

Thanks Nemo. So is that a better option compared to installing it on the local machine first then moving it to the server?

I agree with nemo, for most remote hosting is easier to manage.  Make back  up of  your running copy if need to restore it's helpful.

also on subdomain if prod  shop run root on subdomain '/', but if in folder in prod i.e. yourdomain/prestashop create same folder name in subdomain.
