error upgrading PrestaShop 1.4.7.3 > 1.6.0.9: Javascript error (parseJSON)

Apologies in advance if this topic has been covered before - a brief search did not find a discussion.

 

I'm getting the following error with 1-Click upgrade:

 

Javascript error (parseJSON) detected for action "upgradeNow".Starting restoration..

 

If there is any advice or recommendation, I would appreciate it.

which version are you upgrading from?

 

the error message is very generic, make sure when you use one-click upgrade to turn off PrestaShop debug mode.

I assume you are running upgrade on a test copy of your shop yes?

 

if so, I find upgrading to 1.4.11, followed by upgrade 1.6.0.9 has a higher success rate.

 

click advanced (doing this from memory sorry), here you can select upgrade version(s).  Note: recommended is not same  as default, i.e. it will in your case 1.4.11.

tip: using chrome for example, clt+alt+j to show more .js error info.
