1.6 Multistore Category Tree & Site Menu Breaking

V1.6.0.8

Third Multistore set up, still not lucky.

Images below.

When I try to add a category 'hardware' (just over 40th category) or other categories including the word 'hardware' on the 3rd level, it is inserted to the DB but big issues follow. The issues do not happen if I add something like 'Health Foods' in the same location.

Issues:

  1. While 'Hardware' shows up in the Categories page, if you try to put another category under it, you can not as it does not show up in any of the Category Trees.

  2. Before trying to add 'Hardware' as a category on the Multistore->Shop edit page the Category Tree expanded well. Now that I need to fine tune the sites the category tree is only showing the first two nodes, and it will not search beyond the two nodes. So the shops' categories are all wrong.

  3. All Category Trees site wide are broken. While the shop edit Tree is almost totally broken, the Add->Category->Edit still shows most of the tree, not including 'Hardware'.

  4. Once you try to edit a Shop category set to be shown, the category menu on the live site breaks with not drop down and the link just pointing Home. The categories can no longer be accessed by a user.

This is the third time I have been through the Multistore set up process with different site backup DB files and I get stuck at the same point each time.

My next option is to do all the modifications directly through PHPadmin but I'm thinking that the site categories still will not work.

In regards to the 'category' table, does anyone know what is, and how to get the correct entries for columns 'nleft' and 'nright'?

Obviously this is critical to the site so help is greatly appreciated as always.

ADDED LATER

When a new shop is added only the first two category tree nodes are offered as a category selection. So at no point does the category tree fully load on the site anymore. A shop's categories can not be set to other than the top of the tree.

After building the category tree again it seems when you get in the early 40's category range, that is when it fails. You may or may not get an extra category. That made it seem that the word Hardware had something to do with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is driving me crazy and holding the site's launch back for weeks or months.

I've rebuilt the categories a number of times except the original sub categories before the shop was turned into a multistore. I have however moved them under a new root the first time things went wrong but they always seem to work.

I've built all the categories unto one root which was good for what I wanted, but it all broke.

I've created separate root categories for each site. I have done this both under all shops, and another time under each selected shop (selected a shop and then added it's category).

When I put sub categories under them I have a bit of luck but not for long.

How the **** do you build a complete working category tree for multiple stores?

Not only that, how do you get the categories to show up under categories in the Top Menu category selection boxes so that each site has a product category list. Have some sites that can not get a list of product categories. Once the category building gets to a certain point, all of the categories disappear from the top menu options.

You can add some categories, everything works great. Keep going doing the exact same thing, then all of a sudden, the site is wrecked.

What is the secrete or who is the magician to hire, I only have so much hair to pull out?
