Dilemma with importing database backup

Recommended Posts

Looking for help or a tutorial on how to upload my database into my new prestashop.

The db was downloaded from an older version of prestashop we were running on, now I have changed host and installed 1.6 for a clean slate (as upgrading from 1.2 to 1.6 was a time wasting nightmare).

I have read several posts on how to upload/restore into original database after upgrade, but advice does not work for this brand new set up.

Is it even possible to do through phpMyAdmin? or will it be easier to start from scratch (500 products with attributes)

Please advise if this is in the wrong forum section and I'll move query.

Thanks in advance - any help appreciated

you can certainly import a database backup using phpmyadmin, however you cannot take a database from PS v1.2 and expect it to work in PS v1.6.  The database has changed severely since v1.2 and updates need to be performed.

Does your v1.2 store still function?  Did you take a copy of the database and the web content before changing hosts?  If so, then I would suggest working with a developer to upgrade your store the proper way.  I have done many upgrades from v1.2, and it is very possible, but you must do a manual upgrade to at least v1.4, and then you can use the autoupgrade module to get you to v1.6

Send me a PM if that is something you want to pursue and I can give you an estimate.

An alternative would be to use a cart migration service.  The theory here is that they would migrate your catalog from your old store to your new store.  You just provide them access to both stores and they take care of the rest.  The cost is based on how much data you need to migrate.
