Is this possible when going from 1.5.x to 1.6.x

Recommended Posts

no it's not possible.

prestashop 1.6 has got different database structure, so it will not work.

Hello Vekia,

on the documentation for manual update I understood was ok to do. Below the link (see chap recreating the production database locally):

http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Manual+update

Did I get it wrong ?

So what' best to do to get a data-base could be uploaded in PS 1.6 ? Is this a possibility:

- Back up everything of production website in 1.5

- Upload back up on local or on a different server

- Automatic upgrade backed up production website to PS 1.6

- download data-base from this last upgraded site

Is this last a data-base can be uploaded on a "fresh" installation of PS 1.6 ?

So to recap...

put site in maintenance mode

back everything up

set up test domain either locally or online on testdomain

create a database and write down the login details

copy all files with ftp from live production site (1.5.4) to local folder

download database backup from production site (1.5.4) to local folder

move all files with ftp from the folder to the testdomain

import the database in the new created database on testdomain

check if it's working fine

update to 1.6.x

check again

create database backup and move all files with database backup to new folder on computer

remove everything from the live shop

do a fresh 1.6.x install

move all files with ftp from testdomain to the shop domain

and that should do it

correct?? and will all customer data be preserved (orders, passwords etc.)

That would be my best guess on how to do if the structure of the data-base is  different in the 2 versions…but I am far away from being an expert and never tried myself (I may give it a try but need some time)

Is this still the best way to deal with this issue?

I have a multistore running on 1.5.62 and a testsite where I installed PS 1.6. This was done several months ago, so the database on the testsite is not up-to-date. I've installed new modules and new templates and changed and repaired the layouts.

There should be an easier way...
