What's up with the blank screen?

I've been working for 3 days trying to get Prestashop to install without any success.  No matter what I do, I eventually run into a blank white screen. 

 

I first attempted to install it on my VPS with 5 gigs of ram and a hand full of processors.  I couldn't get past the initial memory error.. 

 

Frustrated, I decided to skip the VPS and move to a hosting company who is setup for Prestashop and let them install it for me.  I set up an account over at Godaddy and had the C-Panel install 1.6.0.5 for me.  It worked fine till I attempted to create a category. Again, another blank screen.

 

I uninstalled 1.6.0.5 and decided to try 1.5.6.2... Again, it wouldn't get past a blank screen.

 

What gives?  

 

Is Prestashop stable enough to run a successful ecommerce store securely?  I'm getting the feeling this software is free for a reason.

 

Where can I find a compatible hosting company?

anytime you receive blank screen, this mean obviously error, but to determine  the error for debugging we must either look at error log in hosting account or turn on errors in PrestaShop

I was having the same issue trying to install prestashop. Not exactly the best first introduction to not be able to even get to the installer.. but I've installed a lot of software on servers before and I figured it had something to do with the server environment.

 

I'm on Bluehost and I did a Google search for "Prestashop Bluehost" and found that bluehost offers a simple script install of Presta. So I deleted all my files off the server so that I had an empty root directory and ran the simple script. That worked.

If your host uses cPanel (or any dashboard that uses simple scripts) see if they have a simple script installer for Prestashop. If not, then I'm not sure what to tell you, but that's what resolved it for me.

FYI: on 3rd party installation services.  There have been 'several' instances where installation by 3rd party services resulted in

issues that could not be resolved until ps downloaded and installed.  For whatever reason (missing updates/out of date modules) caused normal native ps features to not work.
