They are talking about captcha verification and the reply is that this will be available in next versions.

Upon further discussion, we've decided that Captcha increases shopping-cart abandonment due to all the hurdles one has to jump through just to create an account.

We believe Captcha is effective for forum sign-up, but much less so for e-commerce account creation.

We had actually already developed a Captcha module.

Make it as an module available for the people who want to use it.

I just realised that anonymous users can send messages via the contact form, it would be nice to install a captcha there, has anything been done since this thread started a year ago?

Just recently company where i work had a new shop implemented and on a first day someone registered over 10 000 customer accounts over night. Database crashed and it took alot of work to cleanup the mess...

I gues that captcha would help to prevent these situations?

I fully agree. captcha is indeed to avoid people messing up your database and it would be nice if it would be available for account creation as for the contact form. Most e-commerce webshop uses this kind of protection.
