SEO rewrite issue
Last modified : 16 Dec 2008 at 19:58

Severity: Minor
Version: V1 (1.0.0.8)
Installation type: Full (with sample data)
Theme: Default
Project: Front Office
Reporter: freeflyer
Report #: 554
Date created: 15 Oct 2008 at 15:04 (UTC+1)
Related to Report #:

Hosting service: VPS
Server OS: Linux
Web server: Apache 1.3 or later
PHP version: PHP 5.0 or later
5.2.5
MySQL: 5.0
Client computer OS: Windows
Web browser(s) tested: Firefox 2 --- Firefox 3 --- IE6 --- IE7 --- Safari --- Opera --- Konqueror --- Flock

Details:
The url system can have many different versions of the same page… ie..
http://www.shop.com/5-cast-iron-big-garden-benches
http://www.shop.com5-cast-iron-*anything

go to the same page. Now this is going to cause probs for SEO and good indexing in search engines, especially when renaming pages, iet lets say i change the title of a category from ‘large benches’ to ‘big benches’ . This obviously created two active pages with the same content. This is far from ideal and will cause problems, and prevent people from using prestashop.

Comments :

Maybe I misunderstood but you can keep the same friendly url name when editing the category/product name ?
With the latest beta 3 the system has changed so that when in edit mode the friendly url will not change automatically when changing the category/product name.

This is not a bug, there only one method to get product link in PrestaShop (getProductLink()) and URL will be the same on all pages.

Best regards,
