PrestaShop 1.5Thanks to your support, our developers have been working day and night to come up with an awesome new version! With over 400 optimizations, both merchants and customers will be pleased with the useful improvements and changes.

Go ahead, check your sales or make some changes while you’re waiting on the train platform! Improvements to the back-office don’t end there—modules can now be accessed directly from menus and sub-menus from within the back-office! Speaking of modules, we’ve added a new one called Merchant Expertise, which all merchants will find useful. It’s a great tool for merchants to track and develop their activities in a fun and easy way by setting goals for their shop. Check out the “Merchant Expertise” sub-tab under “Administration” to see where your store’s progress stands and what you can do to improve your sales.

You’ll never have to worry about losing customers during the checkout process! Ensuring your customers are happy with their experience is one of the no-brainers of business, but communicating with them can sometimes be easier said than done. Here at PrestaShop, we understand that your customers can come from all over the world, speaking a variety of languages. With PrestaShop v1.5.4, you can now see the preferred language of customers directly on their profile pages. Say hello, bonjour, hola, cześć with confidence!

Ok so there are no changes, just bug fixes, right? :) It only works how it should work long time ago.

Hi Kamahl :) We have made a lot of optimizations that were requested by the community. Also, a new module that helps merchants to succeed in managing their stores by getting the most out of PrestaShop has been added. Check it out!

So how can “Merchant Expertise” be enabled? Did not found even module folder for it, no such a tab.

Great question! You can find the Merchant Expertise module under the Administration tab in your back-office if it’s already installed. If it’s not installed, you can find it on the modules page under “Merchant Expertise (Gamification)”.

Hello, the new Merchant Expertise module is available on new installs of 1.5.4 and upgrades. There was a slight glitch for upgraded stores in the beginning. However, that has been fixed and all upgraded stores now have the merchant expertise module.

I’m running 1.5.4.1, fresh install on a localhost. The Merchant Expertise Module will not install from the back office, with the following errors:
        2 errors
The ‘.$folder.’ you uploaded is not a module
        Module not found

        and the notice:
Payments by check: “To the order of” and “address” must be configured before using this module.

          Hi planewrench,

In this instance, I would first suggest that you download the PrestaShop v1.5.4.1 again from http://www.prestashop.com/download . There may have been a problem during the download or installation process that caused the error. Let me know if this helps. Thank you!

  4. I’m currently using 1.5.3 in my http://fashion.estore.net46.net and I’m afraid to upgrade coz it seems that some people encounter problem with the upgrade. So, I would rather want a fresh install of 1.5.4

I just installed the prestashop 1.5.4 to my local machine but the first thing that I have noticed is the Tags module do not work properly. Thumb images are missing, no description, no price, nothing at all… It works best in 1.5.3

Is there any other way to fix it?

    Thanks.

Good idea Hart, you should always try a local upgrade before doing it on your real site. Can you tell us the problems that you’re experiencing with tags modules? You can also try to do a clean install again, just to be sure. Let us know and don’t hesitate to voice your troubles on our forums or our forge! We’d love to help you out.

        Date: March 29, 2013 at 4:18 pm

In prestashop 1.5.4 when you click any of the tags, the search result shows empty product: no image, no short description, no price, only empty frame

Say, the results found is 3, only one empty frame is shown.
BTW, it’s a fresh install of Prestashop 1.5.4, not an upgrade.

We apologize about that! Our developers are aware of the bug and they are working hard to fix the issue. The next version of PrestaShop will be debugged for this problem.

  5. Now that 1.5.4 is out maybe you can update demo site on Prestashop also. It does not make much sense that you are still running it on 1.5.1 and already anouncing that latest version without updating it.

Hey, back-office is still same for tablet and phone.
Do I have to change anything in configuration?

    • Author: benjamin utterback

      Date: April 8, 2013 at 10:00 pm

Hi Rohit, the back office does look the same. However, it has been optimized to ensure functionality and viewing capability across all tablets and mobile phones/browsers.

  8. hi Nicole and prestashop team.

my concern is that of hart. above.

I’m just now tweaking my shop to go live and all works well after a lot of customization and learning. I am a ps newbie and it has been a loooong learning process even though I have had experience with joomla before.
I don’t know how to do a local upgrade, any ideas?

i always say if it ain’t broken don’t fix it ;) so am afraid to break my shop by upgrading.

is there a way to back up 1.5.3.1 so that if and when I upgrade to 1.5.4 and if I have issues I can EASILY revert to 1.5.3.1?

    thanks!
    jer…

Hi Jeremy, to answer your question in short, you can easily revert back to whatever version as long as you have two things. 1) Most recent backup of your SQL database and 2) Back up of your PrestaShop folders and files (admin, config, classes etc). With those two backup files, you can easily revert it at any time.

Upgrade procedure is a common question. The upgrade procedure is not difficult, but you do need to take a couple precautionary steps to minimize downtime. You want to make sure you backup your database and your PrestaShop files. That is the most important part. After you have the backup you should make a test localhost/subdomain that you can copy your backup to (this will duplicate your shop). Once you have your duplicate store, you can then test the upgrade on the duplicate/dummy/test store. You can either use the 1-Click upgrade module or do a manual upgrade. Now, you can see any issues or errors that you may encounter BEFORE doing a live upgrade. This should be the way that all upgrades are done. This will minimize the downtime on your live store.

what happen to back office module?
when i click mocules>modules, it becomes blank.. any clue..?

    • Author: benjamin utterback

      Date: April 8, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Hi Rumah, when your modules tab is blank it may due to a memory limit on your Server. Turn on error reporting and check your Server’s error logs as well. Contact your hosting if you are not sure where to see the server error logs.

Why is there no way built into Prestashop to configure each category so that they display products in a grid rather than a list? If a merchant has 30+ products in a category, no one will scroll through four pages of products to find what they want.

    • Author: benjamin utterback

      Date: April 8, 2013 at 9:43 pm

Hi EP, that is a good suggestion. I know that there are tutorials online for 1.5 to teach you how to do this. However, it is not a built in feature yet. Also, many templates have this option as some of them are based off of the Grid view. I suggest that you do a quick search and I’m sure you will find what you are looking for. Thank you for the suggestion!

      • Author: estorepower

        Date: April 15, 2013 at 6:32 pm

I have seen this feature in one of premium themes online where the visitors can choose to view the products in list or grid view by just clicking a toggle button or drop down menu.

I would also like to wish for the future CMS development to have an additional option to manipulate CMS in 1 column, 2 column or 3 columns. Just like what I saw in Magento CMS. But still Prestashop is a whole lot easier to teach to clients than Magento. Just my 2 cents worth.

  13. I’m happy you did concentrate on bug fixes for a stable shopping platform. New features are for people who want more, more, more. Most important that existing shops run smoothly. Thank you

Thanks for your comment. However, this is such a small change I wonder why it was not included. Most of the major carts have a multiple column product display option built in – one need only decide how many columns across to show.

By way of background, our cart is being built using te default tgemplate. We’ve made no major changes or revision. I tried using the “1 Click Upgrade” from the backend of our cart and it failed. The error was: (begin)”{Ajax / Server Error] text status: “error” (new line) error thrown: “” jqXHR: “” (end). It occurs at ‘…/csv-import/products_import.csv-addedtoarchive.8116 ‘. Is this a bug?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

bug on cart of my Prestashop 1.5.4 upgraded from Prestashop 1.5.2:
I have free shipping set up for orders over € 30, but when I insert in cart something for example of 10 € always shows free shipping on front office on the cart module, until I go on checkout page and log in, than normal shippings come back. as you can imagine this is not good for customers

  18. I updated my prestashop to 1.5.4 (haven’t add products yet) but, I forgot to backup my files. When I want to view my shop, it says that the page is performing a site maintenance. How can I fix this problem? Should I download prestashop again? Thanks

I have a query on the upgrade. When I (or a customer) create a new account now, the permanent links bar, which shows a ‘welcome *name*’ option in the theme I am in, welcomes a previous account name. They don’t appear to be able to see the details of that account but the name flashing up in the permanent links module is most certainly not their own.

    Hi,

    I just made a 1.5.4 new installation.

I got an error and the install process stopped at 25%.
There are many programmers that met this problem.

Now I have to erase everything and to start again.
My last job was designed by PrestaShop 1.4.8.3 and everything work fine.

Any ideas about the problem ??

    Thanks

Hi, thank you for the message. The installation problem that you have is most likely due to a server problem, or a corrupted download. I suggest that yo try to download and install PrestaShop on a local host, and then try to install again on your server. If you are experiencing problems, first contact you hosting provider to make sure they meet the minimum system requirements. http://www.prestashop.com/en/system-requirements

How can i configure the notification email that sent to customer?
I tried purchase from my store but an email sent to me stated item out of stocks and i need to know how to configure the email content too.
Can we configure SMTP server instead of sending the email directly from the website. This will cause the email to be classified as spam,

  26. I’ve tried several ‘ways’ to upgrade from 1.4.10 to 1.5.4.1 but none of them where succesfull. In several ways means here: I’ve always used the 1-click upgrade but used different options end even disabled modules and set the default theme before upgrading. I’ve not modified anything manual on the orginal installation (I come from version 1.4.3 (fresh) and over time upgraded to 1.4.10 without any problems. The admin side of 1.5.4.1. seems to work fine but the front-end only displays the homepage (with the Martial Arts Theme, suited for 1.5. installs,) of the shop. Clicking any menu option or else, generates an error (to many links or something)! Any clues? Thnx in andvance
