E-commerce Success Story: How two Australian mums are giving kids the irresistible gift of Cupcakes & Cola

Cupcakes & Cola are two treats no kid can resist but in this case, it’s how Australian sisters-in-law, Rebekah and Melissa, made their passion for their children’s fashion come to life! Cupcakes & Cola Children’s Boutique is a PrestaShop powered online store selling children’s clothing from newborns to size 7, accessories, bedding, toys and personalized bedroom décor.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Rebekah, who shared Cupcakes & Cola’s experience using PrestaShop and what they have done to make their adorable online shop an e-commerce success story!

Tell me about you and Cupcakes & Cola

Melissa and I (Rebekah) are sisters-in-law and are both mums who are passionate about our children’s fashion. Melissa is a registered nurse and works part time in a leading hospital in Melbourne and I work part time in our family business takeaway shop.
Melissa and I often dreamed about having our own online children’s store one day, and after both having our babies which are only 6 months apart in age, we thought it was perfect timing to make our dreams come true.

How and why did you choose PrestaShop?

Our web developer IT Grade suggested we use PrestaShop as it has all the features that we were looking for. PrestaShop allowed us to easily track inventory and customer orders, is extremely user friendly and can be customized to our preferences without restrictions.

Which PrestaShop features do you use that you would recommend to other PrestaShop stores?

We use various components of PrestaShop such as the catalogue which allows us to list each item and customize the description, prices and images to our liking. We use attributes and values so that we can list sizes, patterns and quantities of each item.
We also use the Price Rules to offer discounts or free shipping from time to time. We have established distinct codes for customers to use and enter at checkout in order to take advantage of any offers we have.

What marketing strategies do you use to drive traffic to your website?

We have created competitions via Facebook for people to like our page and share it with others in order to build our audience. We regularly post photos and outfit inspirations to entice our customers to shop in our store.
We are also in the process of perfecting our SEO so that people are directed to our website.

What measures do you take to try to convert a visitor into a customer?

We make sure that we inspect each product and ensure that it’s of the highest quality before we ship each item to our customers. We have returned clothes to our suppliers prior to listing on our website if we have found the quality is poor or not of a standard that we wish to provide to our customers.
We ensure that we provide outstanding service to our customers by replying to queries and requests as quickly as possible. We aim to have responded to any queries within a 4 hour timeframe.
We have capped our shipping costs to make shopping on our website affordable and offer free shipping on orders over $100.

What do you do to make your customers return shoppers?

We offer a loyalty program to our customers which is another option available to us via PrestaShop. Each customer earns 1 point for every $10 they spend and are able to redeem a voucher to the value of their points once they have accumulated enough points.

Do you have future plans for Cupcakes & Cola?

Our plan is to build our product range and add new clothing brands each season as well as new products. We plan to increase our sizing range up to teenage sizes and also introduce international brands.
