PrestaShop BlogPut the champagne on ice and iron your best suit: PrestaShop e-Commerce Solution v1.0 is available for sneak previews as a release candidate (RC). After the final kinks are worked out of this release candidate, version 1.0 will officially be launched as a stable, production-ready e-Commerce shopping cart that is, as always, free and Open-Source.
With new features such as a new and sophisticated "Web 2.0" storefront and SSL encryption, PrestaShop v1.0 will be the first fully mature version of our e-Commerce shopping cart software that has already been tested and improved over the course of 14 separate releases, starting with version 0.8 back in August, 2007. Advanced computer users have already used PrestaShop beta software to create dozens of live, revenue-generating Web shops.
Thanks to this extended beta phase and to the invaluable feedback from our ever-growing user community, PrestaShop v1.0 stable will soon be ready for full deployment for those seeking to create or upgrade an online Web business quickly, easily, and inexpensively.
The following is an incomplete list of new features available in PrestaShop v1.0 RC1:
New default theme. The new default graphic interface for the Front Office (storefront) has been rebuilt from scratch and includes these improvements:
Please note: The current (pre-v1.0) theme, and customized themes current PrestaShop users have based on it, will be backwards-compatible. In other words, it will continue to work with all core PrestaShop v1.0 functionality. However, new features that are theme-specific (listed above) will only be available in the new default theme.
Digressive pricing (Quantity discounts). The more the customer orders of the same item, the lower the price per unit. Please note that the ability to offer 'packs' of different items for a lower price is very different functionality and will be developed post-v1.0.
Real-time currency exchange rates. In the Back Office, you will be able to set currency rates to update automatically.
SSL encryption. By popular demand, you will be able to use SSL encryption for customer account creation and Back Office access, among other uses.
Google Adsense module. You will be able to place a block of Google Adsense ads on the Front Office.
States/Regions/Cities/etc. information. You will be able to add an extra level of delivery-address and shipping information from values you define (e.g., states, cities, regions, departments, etc.). A list of US states will be included by default.
Improved attribute management. Managing attributes will be more intuitive and less time-consuming.
Features planned for v1.0 that have yet to be completed but that will be completed by PrestaShop v1.0 stable are: Customized product (text only), Export products as a .CSV file, and the Stats tab.
